The state government has urged the Centre to consider its demand for strengthening the railway network in the Naxal corridor by sanctioning new trains between Gadchiroli and Adilabad (59km) and Wadsa Desaiganj and Gadchiroli (49.5km) in the Union railway budget,which will be presented on Tuesday.
The state government indicated that six mega railway projects are pending with the railway board which need to be incorporated in the coming budget.
The objective of the state is to strengthen the economic centres dotted across state with direct trains. The backward Marathwada region has always hoped for a train between Ahmednagar-Beed-Parli Vaijanath and Wardha-Pusad via Nanded and Yavatmal.
The state has given its nod for sharing equally the project cost with the Centre for the first project and 40 per cent in the second project.
The state government has also sought a special package for Mumbai.
Bombay HC clears way for Nanasaheb memorial
Bombay High Court on Monday cleared the way for the state government to construct a memorial for late social worker and ‘Maharashtra Bhushan’ awardee Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari in Alibaug. Dharmadhikari had worked towards spreading the philosophy of Marathi saint Swami Ramdas. A division bench of Justices A M Khanwilkar and A P Bhangale dismissed a petition by a group of Alibaug residents who said the land was used for cattle grazing.
