The chief of Special Protection Group, which provides security to the Prime Minister, got a taste of his own medicine when his vehicle was stopped by Delhi Police personnel posted at the outer gate of AIIMS where Manmohan Singh is recupurating after a coronary surgery.
The incident took place in the morning when SPG Director B V Wanchoo arrived in his official car at the AIIMS and was not allowed to enter the premises by alert constables at the premier hospital’s main gate.
Even after Wanchoo revealed his identity, the SPG director was not allowed to take his vehicle inside and was made to walk down to the Cardio Vascular Thoracic Surgery (CVTS) unit where the Prime Minister is admitted, eyewitnesses said.
The Prime Minister’s first cousin Amar Singh Kohli, who had come in a private taxi from Dehradun, also had to walk down from the main gate as the security personnel did not allow his car to come inside.
“I could not meet the Prime Minister. But,I had a word with his wife who said that his (Singh’s) condition is okay and he has been taken off the ventilator,” Kohli said after coming out of the CVTS unit.
The next in line was Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia whose vehicle was also stopped.
Singh, who came in a Maruti Esteem car fitted with a red-beacon,was stopped by the Delhi Police personnel manning the main entrance to the hospital.
Both Ahluwalia and his wife then walked down to the Centre where Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is recuperating from the successful coronary by-pass surgery done yesterday.
