Javier Moro, the Spanish author of the “dramatised biography” of Sonia Gandhi that had run into trouble with the Congress, on Saturday said his book was not “political” and actually portrayed Sonia Gandhi in good light.

Talking to reporters after his book, The Red Sari, finally hit the stands in India about five years after it was prevented from coming into the country due to opposition from the Congress, Moro said some of the Congress workers had overreacted.

“The book puts Sonia Gandhi in good light. I still wonder why Congress was against publishing it. The whole issue was blown out of proportion by poor PR people of Congress,” Moro said.

The 455-page book has been written in Spanish, and an English translation by Peter J Hearn has finally made its way to Indian bookstores. Moro said the imagined conversations were legitimate in a “dramatised biography”. “I have not invented a single thing that could be sued for libel,” he said.
