Terming state BJP government as ‘anti-farmer’, the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee(GPCC) president Bharatsinh Solanki has said that BJP made tall promises with farmers and poor villagers during assembly and lok sabha election but they its policies are harming the farmers and poor people.
Addressing a farmers rally at Vadgam village in Surendranagar district on Wednesday while it was raining, Solanki said that while the state government offered subsidies running into thousands of crores in the last 15 years, thousands of farmers all over the state had been deprived of agricultural power as well as Narmada water for irrigation.
Pointing out that Narmada water was chiefly meant for drinking purposes and agriculture, he said that while industries were provided Narmada water, farmers had been denied of it.
Alleging huge corruption in recruitment for government jobs, the Congress said that there was corruption of over Rs. 500 crore in government job appointments in the last five years.
Solanki was earlier welcomed with 400 bikers from the National Students Union of India(NSUI) leading his car from Surendranagar to the venue of the public meeting.
