Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani has sought an explanation from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) after images of spelling mistakes in the letterhead on which she wrote a congratulatory letter to teachers went viral.

The letter, sent on Irani’s behalf to school teachers for good results in board exams, went viral soon after a teacher, Richa Kumar of DPS Bhilai, posted it on a social media website.

On the letterhead, the words ‘minister’ and ‘sansadhan’ (in Hindi) have been spelt incorrectly. Even the minister’s name in Hindi has spelling errors.

The CBSE apologised for the mistake, which it claimed was a result of “oversight”. The board said it was reissuing the letters.
