In a new twist to the Bluestar Memorial controversy, head of the breakaway faction of Damdami Taksal Ram Singh,at a conclave attended by representatives of various Sikh bodies,on Friday said that the memorial was incomplete and there should be a detailed reference to all who made sacrifices for the Sikh community in its 20th century struggles.
Terming the history boards (relating to Operation Bluestar) as inadequate to describe the Sikh struggle of the 20th century,Ram Singh also demanded that touch screens be installed to depict the injustice and repression of Sikhs.
Besides opposing the name of Bhindrawale on the memorial,SGPC,that had entrusted the task of memorial construction to Damdami Taksal,is also miffed at putting up of history boards near the memorial entrance.
A resolution for a memorial with detailed history was adopted on Friday at the conclave, which was attended by among others, former chief of Takht Damdama Sahib Giani Kewal Singh,All India Sikh Students Federation president Karnail Singh Peermohammed,All India Dharmi Fauji Federation chief Baldev Singh,Shabad Guru Parchar Sant Samaj head Ghala Singh and relatives of those killed in 1984 Operation Bluestar and 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
Maintaining that a memorial in the form of a gurdwara was not sufficient to describe the Sikh struggle,Ram Singh said that the resolution also demanded that names of Indira assassins Beant Singh,Satwant Singh and Kehar Singh and Gen A S Vaidya assassins Harjinder Singh Jinda and Sukhdev Singh Sukha along with Sikh army men who had deserted the army in protest after Operation Bluestar be also mentioned in the memorial.
Slamming the Congress and BJP for interfering in Sikhs affairs,he said,it was an internal matter of Sikhs. He invoked naming of memorial after slain Punjab chief minister Beant Singh and airport after Indira Gandhi to assert that Sikh had every right to construct their own memorials.
The Sikh Clergy meet over the Bluestar Memorial issue had remained inconclusive on May 15. The resolution that was adopted on Friday is likely to be submitted to the Akal Takht chief shortly.
