It was a 25-minute-long scene,which had a constable trying to flag down a speeding Santro car and later jumping on to the bonnet of the car as the driver refused to stop. Even as the constable held on to the car,its driver increased speed in an attempt to escape. Finally,the Santro was brought to a halt with a PCR van on its tail.
The scene is straight out of real life,and was reported from Bahadurgarh-Najafgarh T-point where Constable Anil Kumar was on duty around 4 pm on Monday.
The driver of the Santro,Satish,has been arrested.
In his complaint,Constable Kumar said he had noticed the car speeding towards him and he had signalled it to stop.
“The car,a white Santro with tinted glasses,was speeding and despite my signaling the driver took a right turn. I ended up right in front of the car,” said Kumar.
As a reflex,Kumar said,he jumped on to the bonnet of the car,but instead of stopping,Satish increased the speed.
“The driver continued to speed and Kumar held on. Onlookers watched the whole drama,but no one chased the car,” said a senior police officer.
“The driver tried his best to ensure that I fall off,but I held the bonnet firmly. The driver drove towards the Dhansa bus stand,a petrol pump in the area and finally arrived at the Jain Mandir. The street here is narrow and the driver was forced to slow down,” said Kumar.
Taking advantage of the slow speed,Kumar jumped off.
By the time,a PCR van was also tailing the Santro. Constable Kumar also put up chase in a van. A few metres ahead,Satish was apprehended near New Roshan Pura street. He had parked his car here,thinking he had managed to escape,police said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic-West) Sharad Sinha said,“The errant driver did not stop despite the constable signaling him to do so. He injured the constable in the process.”
Satish has been booked for obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions,assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty and kidnapping or abducting.
