Sidhu wins battle, but may have lost war

SAD leaders are already annoyed with the cricketer-turned-politician and have reportedly been boycotting programs attended by his wife,Chief Parliamentary Secretary Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu.

With his fast-unto-death declaration forcing Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to provide a detailed account of how his “pet projects” would be started and completed,BJP MP Navjot Sidhu, who has since called off his fast, may have won the battle.

SAD leaders are already annoyed with the cricketer-turned-politician and have reportedly been boycotting programs attended by his wife,Chief Parliamentary Secretary Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu. This, after Sidhu began launching scathing attacks on Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal.

The Akalis even held a blood donation camp at Vallah on Saturday that was attended by Cabinet Minister Bikram Singh Majithia among other Akali leaders. Vallah falls in Amritsar East constituency, represented by Sidhu’s wife and she herself had held a sangat darshan-cum-free medical camp here on Friday.

In further reflection of Sidhu’s troubles with the party,Cabinet Minister Anil Joshi was given a rousing welcome by BJP cadre in Amritsar on Saturday. Among those lined up to welcome Joshi during his visit to the city after being given the Local Bodies and Medical Education portfolio, were Amritsar Mayor Bakshi Ram Arora, senior BJP leader Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina and Tarun Chugh, among others.

Punjab BJP chief Kamal Sharma, whose proximity to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal is an open secret, insiders say does not have any cordial relations with Sidhu either.

Sidhu’s wife had stated on Facebook that her husband was being “sidelined” and the MP on Saturday said that he felt like an opposition MP. As things unfold,Sidhu truly seems to have been “sidelined”. He might have won a battle, but appears to have lost the war even before it began.
