Police today arrested a third accused in the Vikas Nagar rape case,while a local court remanded two other rape accused in police custody till October 5.
Shimla was rocked by two incidents of rape of two minor girls yesterday. In one case,a 16-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped by a taxi driver and raped in a hotel. In the second case,a minor from Vikas Nagar was allegedly kidnapped from her house and gangraped.
One girl was discharged from Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital today while the other is still in hospital.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Pankaj Sharma said,The third accused Arjun Pandit,33,involved in the Vikas Nagar rape case,was arrested today on clues given by the girl,whose statement was recorded by the police on Wednesday. He hails from Krishna Nagar locality of Shimla.
A minor who was a classmate of the victim - has been kept in the custody of his parents and will be shifted to a childcare home at Una.
One accused,taxi driver Raju Negi,confessed to the crime. He said the girl had consented, said additional SP Shimla Sanjeev Dharwal.
Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh,asked by mediapersons about the,case said,Law will take its course against the accused,who have been arrested. Protests were held in front of the DC office by activists of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.
