Shatabdi stopped repeatedly,chaos at stations

Bajwa was on his way to Amritsar.

Amidst repeated forced stoppage of the Swaran Shatabdi, alleged pick pocketing and ‘theft’ of a bracelet,a rousing welcome was accorded by thousands of Congress workers to the newly appointed president of the Punjab Pardesh Congress Committee (PPCC) Partap Singh Bajwa at Jalandhar and Pahgwara during brief stoppages of the train at the stations on Saturday. Bajwa was on his way to Amritsar.

The Swaran Shatabdi from New Delhi to Amritsar stops at each of these stations for two minutes, however on Saturday the train was forced to stop at each station for five minutes after its force-stop chain was pulled – twice in Jalandhar and once in Phagwara.

Jalandhar’s station master,Ashok Kumar, said they were inquiring into the matter while the report of chain pulling had been sent to higher authorities. He also informed that Bajwa was travelling in Executive-1 coach while the force-stop chain was pulled in coach C-6.

It is also learnt that barring a few senior Congress leaders none of the Congress workers had purchased platform tickets, either in Jalandhar or Phagwara.

At the Phagwara station, some Congress workers alleged pick pocketing while one of them alleged that his 8-tola bracelet had been snatched. However,no complaint was lodged at Government Railway Police station.
