‘Sexual harassment’: National Commission for Women notice to Prasar Bharati

The complaints of ‘sexual harassment’ is filed by a group of women who have been working as casual FM presenters (Radio Jockeys) with All India Radio FM.

The National Commission for Women on Thursday sought an Action Taken Report from the Chairman of Prasar Bharati Board on complaints of ‘sexual harassment’ filed by a group of women who have been working as casual FM presenters (Radio Jockeys) with All India Radio FM.

The complaint before the Commission alleges that the current Deputy Director General (station director) has been “using harsh words” and “yelling at the presenters” apart from changing their shift timings without giving notice.

The complaint also alleges that the Director General, AIR, was trying” to get rid of casual presenters who were complainants in the sexual harassment case some months ago”, as “most of them were being affected by the said order.”

The presenters claim that orders were issued to remove all casual presenters over 35 years of age, in a bid to get rid of the complainants. The order was stayed by the I&B Ministry after widespread protests by presenters across the country.
