Security of Pak nationals in jails stepped up

Security of Pakistani nationals lodged in jails in the state has been increased in the wake of the attack on Sarabjit Singh in Kot Lakhpat Jail in Pakistan and his subsequent death,and the attack on a Pakistani prisoner in Jammu’s Kot Bhalwal Jail on Friday.

Additional Director General of Police (prisons) Meeran Borwankar told The Indian Express,“We have Pakistani nationals lodged in our jails. We have beefed up their security. I will not like to comment further.” Sources said the security of convicts and under-trials in terror-related cases has also been tightened.

A senior officer with the state prisons department,headquartered in Pune,said that five Pakistani citizens have been lodged in Nashik and Aurangabad jails for the last few years.

“Their security has been increased and care is being taken that they do not come in contact with other inmates. Their food timings have either been changed or they are being served separately. Instructions in this regard have come from the Union Home Ministry.”
