A week after Parliament passed the Land Boundary Agreement with Bangladesh, the ruling BJP’s ideological parent has demanded that the India-Bangladesh border should be sealed in order to check illegal migration from the other side.
An editorial in RSS mouthpiece Organiser said: “The landmark deal should be followed up with the illegal migration issue; otherwise, in future we will have to deal with another Jammu-Kashmir like imbroglio on the eastern border.”
Hailing the border pact as a landmark deal that settled the dichotomy of land and human control in Assam, West Bengal and Tripura, it said: “Now with borders marked, it is time to address issues pertaining to illegal migration.”
Illegal migration from Bangladesh had been a highlight of BJP’s election issue in states like Assam and West Bengal. The Sangh Parivar fountainhead said due to legal, political and social contours within Bangladesh, Hindus are being either forcefully migrated or shamefully persecuted.
Raising concern over the “cross border connections” of incidents like Burdwan blasts, the weekly criticised that “the illegal migration and subsequent changes in demography have resulted in vote bank considerations surpassing national security concerns.”
