A 14-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan of her classroom in East Delhi’s Jagatpuri area on Friday afternoon. Reportedly, the girl was upset after her mother reprimanded her in front of her teacher this morning for bunking classes.

The incident reportedly took place at a school in Chandan Nagar,East Delhi,on Friday afternoon. No suicide note was recovered from the spot. However, police found that the girl had scribbled a message on her right hand stating that she was not happy with her life and hence she took the extreme step, police said.

According to police, the girl felt humiliated after her mother slapped her in front of her teacher on Friday morning. The girl had not attended classes in the past few days. Police said she often bunked school and was confronted by her class teacher on Friday,. “The teacher first scolded her and then informed her mother that she had not been attending classes at school. Her mother then came to the school and allegedly slapped her in front of the teacher and some students,” a senior police officer said.

The girl was silent for the entire day. She went to a vacant classroom after classes got over, where she allegedly hanged herself using a crape bandage. One of the security guards taking rounds of the school saw her and made a PCR call. “A team of officials was sent to the spot and the girl was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. Her classmates told us that she was upset throughout the day and did not talk to anybody. There is no foul play in the case and we have ordered an enquiry into the matter. Investigations are underway,” said a senior police officer.

Police said the body was handed over to the family after the post-mortem was conducted.
