The Supreme Court on Wednesday accepted a Special Leave Petition on the shifting of tiger T-24 from Ranthambore National Park to Sajjangarh biological park in Udaipur by Rajasthan government. The SLP, filed by Pune-based Chandra Bhal Singh, is listed for hearing on May 21.

The wildlife lover said he was shocked with the state forest department’s sudden move to shift the tiger from the wild to captivity. “We moved the Delhi High Court on Monday, which asked us to move the Rajasthan High Court. The Rajasthan HC listed our petition for May 28. But we thought it would be too late for the tiger. So we moved the apex court,” Singh said. The tiger had mauled a security guard to death earlier this month.
