In a letter to caretaker chief minister of Punjab Province (Pakistan) Najam Sethi,Chairperson of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan Zohra Yusuf sought immediate security to Sarabjit Singh’s lawyer Awais Sheikh who is allegedly being threatened in Pakistan for taking up the Indian prisoner’s case.

“We write to you to raise a matter of urgent concern. It has been brought to our notice that Awais Sheikh who had been representing Sarabjit Singh,an Indian prisoner held at Lahore prison,as a lawyer is now being followed and harassed… Sheikh had every right to represent any individual he chose and the fact that this has resulted in threats for him is utterly unacceptable. The Human Rights Commission Pakistan (HRCP) is worried for his safety and calls upon you to ensure that he comes to no harm,” Zohra wrote to Sethi.

Later Sarabjit’s sister Dalbir Kaur also said Pakistan government should ensure the safety of Sheikh and his family.
