Sanjay Sinh’s son Anant joins BJP

"I have joined the BJP because I believe in the vision of Modij,” he said.

Anant Vikram Singh, the son of Congress Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Sinh, joined the BJP at the party headquarters in Lucknow Sunday. Demanding reinvestigation into the Syed Modi murder case, Anant, who joined the saffron party amid slogans of “Jai Sree Ram” and “Amethi chhetra humara hai”, promised to build ground for the BJP in the region.

“Maharaj (referring to his father Sanjay Sinh) is a senior leader, who is busy with national issues. I decided to join the BJP for the development of my region Amethi. I am a small worker of the BJP and would strengthen its base for development of my people,” said Anant.

Soon after joining the BJP in the presence of the party’s state president Laxmikant Bajpai, Anant demanded reinvestigation into the murder of Syed Modi, the badminton player.

Syed Modi, the first husband of Ameeta Sinh, was shot dead in broad daylight outside K D Singh Babu stadium in Lucknow after a practice session in 1988.

“I demand that the CBI should reinvestigate Syed Modi murder case because the family of Modi and my family, who have suffered since then, deserve to know the truth and get justice,” he said.

However, he refuted allegations that he joined the BJP to win the family battle and that he would campaign against his stepmother Ameeta Sinh. “I have joined the BJP because I believe in the vision of Modiji and to bring development for people of Amethi.”
