Centre may drop Robert Vadra from ‘no frisking’ list

Sources said the Home Ministry has said it does not consider the threat perception to Vadra serious enough to warrant his inclusion in the no-frisking list.

Robert Vadra, Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law, is likely to be stripped of his privilege of exemption from being frisked at airports if he travels with a SPG protectee, with the Home Ministry giving its approval for a review of people who enjoy such exemption.

Sources said the MHA had asked the Civil Aviation Ministry to proceed with its plans of reviewing a list of 33 categories of persons, which includes Vadra and the Dalai Lama, who are exempted from frisking at airports across the country.

The Home Ministry has conveyed that it does not consider the threat perception to Vadra to be serious enough for the no-frisking exemption. It has, however, asked the ministry to take a decision after consulting the SPG, which protects his wife.
