Three judges of the Saket court and their driver were attacked by four men on motorcycles after the car they were travelling in grazed one of the motorcycles on Thursday evening.
While Metropolitan Magistrate Ajay Garg and car driver Chaman Lal suffered head injuries,Additional Sessions Judge M K Nagpal and Additional District Judge Inderjeet Singh Mehta, who were also in the car, escaped unhurt.
Police said the incident took place around 5.30 pm on the BRT corridor near Madangiri when Gargs car grazed a motorcycle.
Two persons, identified as Anil Raj and Rohit, have been arrested. Anil Raj works in a mall while Rohit is a dealer in second-hand cars, police said.
The car merely scraped the motorbike as there was bumper-to-bumper traffic at that time. The two persons on the motorcycle flew into a rage and they made Chaman Lal,the driver, step out of the car. They began abusing him. When Chaman Lal got back into the car,the bikers picked up stones that were lying by the roadside and began hurling them at the car, a police officer said.
They were soon joined by two other persons on another motorcycle. They too began pelting stones at the car. Garg and Chaman Lal,who were seated in the front, suffered head injuries. The two other judges,M K Nagpal and Inderjeet Singh Mehta, were in the rear seat. They got out of the car and rushed to a nearby shop and called police. The assailants,in the meantime, fled the spot on one motorcycle, leaving the other one behind, which we seized, the officer said.
Police said the three judges were headed home from court and were driving towards Faridabad where two of them live.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Ajay Chaudhry said,We are looking at this as a case of road rage. The altercation started with the driver and later turned violent. The assailants even tried to drag the others out of the car.
Police said a PCR call was received at 5.45 pm and the injured were immediately rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre.
While Chaman Lal suffered minor injuries,Ajay Garg has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit . His condition is stable now but we will have to keep him under observation for a while, said doctors at AIIMS.
Police said a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) has been registered at the Ambedkar Nagar police station and a search is on to arrest the other two assailants.
