The Sanjha Morcha-Congress alliance has worked well in the rural elections, feels Peoples Party of Punjab president Manpreet Singh Badal. He believes that the seat-adjustment formula has helped the alliance immensely in Mansa and Bathinda, while it played a significant role in Sangrur,Fatehgarh Sahib and Hoshairpur.
In Bathinda, the alliance had a seat-sharing agreement in 30 seats,of which,it won 22: the Congress bagging 19 and the PPP accounting for the remaining three. It was a similar story in Mansa where the alliance won eight of the ten seats it contested together.
In Sangrur, the Morcha-Congress seat sharing formula covered 150 seats but the alliance managed to win only 45 panchayat samiti seats and one Zila Parishad seat while in Fatehgarh Sahib, the seat adjustment was extended to 60 seats and earned the alliance 24 of them.
In Hoshiarpur,we co-operated for only the Bhangla Zila Parishad seat as the meetings happened late and to our surprise,we won the seat. Even in Ropar our seat adjustment yielded us more than 20 per cent success rate, PPP president Manpreet Badal said.
