Research scholars to get higher grants

The amount for grade II has been revised to Rs 42,000 from Rs 23,000 and for grade I to Rs 38,000 from Rs 22,000.

The government on Tuesday announced a significant jump in the fellowship amounts for research scholars in science, a decision that will benefit about one lakh young scientists. A Research Associate grade III would now be entitled to Rs 46,000 per month instead of  Rs 24,000 earlier.

The amount for grade II has been revised to Rs 42,000 from Rs 23,000 and for grade I to Rs 38,000 from Rs 22,000. Senior Research Fellows would now get

Rs 30,000 instead of Rs 18,000 while Junior Research Fellows will be entitled to Rs 25,000 instead of Rs 16,000, Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh announced. He said the government was responding to a long-pending demand from science scholars and said the increased amounts would be in addition to the House Rent Allowance and medical benefits.
