Union minister and LJP chief Ramvilas Paswan on Sunday said any attempt by the JD(U) to replace Chief Minister Jeetan Ram Manjhi would “invite a Mahadalit backlash”. He said Manjhi should be “allowed to continue and function independently” as he has “proved himself much better chief minister than his predecessor Nitish Kumar”.
“Save some controversial remarks, Manjhi has been doing well. He is being insulted everyday and made to placate Nitish Kumar,” Paswan said.
He cautioned that the NDA alone stood to gain if Manjhi is replaced as major chunk of Mahadalit votes would shift towards it.
Targeting former Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar for “spreading confusion” over the Centre’s bonus policy for farmers during his Sampark Yatra, Paswan said: “At least Manjhi has got it right and has started distributing bonus to farmers for selling rice on minimum support price. Nitish Kumar has been wrongly telling farmers that Centre has stopped bonus”.
