Raninder trumps Majithia in rifle body polls

Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh’s son,Raninder Singh — the president of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) — on Monday received overwhelming support from across the country,garnering 517 of the 843 votes for authorisation to nominate members to the general house of NRAI.

Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh’s son,Raninder Singh — the president of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) — on Monday received overwhelming support from across the country,garnering 517 of the 843 votes for authorisation to nominate members to the general house of NRAI. He won by a margin of 193 votes with his opponents managing only 324 votes.

Thanking members for their overwhelming support,Raninder Singh said it was a victory of sports over dirty politics being practised by certain people. He added that it was a matter of great pride for the Association and its members that they had defeated the designs of “certain vested interests who wanted bring politics into the apex shooting body in the country.”

The NRAI is the apex sporting body of shooting-related sports in the country.

Meanwhile,Punjab Youth Congress president Vikarmjit Singh Chaudhary said Raninder’s victory was not just a setback but also a lesson for state Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia that money cannot buy him everything.

Chaudhary alleged that the entire Punjab government machinery,particularly IAS and IPS officers “loyal to the state government”,were put on duty to prevail upon the members to oppose Raninder Singh’s authorisation.
