Himachal Pradesh chief parliamentary secretary (CPS) Rajesh Dharmani resigned today, nearly nine months after he was appointed as CPS along with two others. Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh had later inducted six more CPS.
Two-time Congress MLA from Ghumarwin in Bilaspur district,Dharmani sent his resignation to Virbhadra this afternoon, sources said.
Reports said Dharmani, one of the young faces in the Congress, had claimed that the CPS had no powers to contribute to the government and policy-making. An engineer who joined politics,Dharmani had been expecting a cabinet berth. Virbhadra, however, favoured ex-minister and loyalist Ram Lal Thakur, who was appointed chairman of a government body with cabinet rank. This left Dharmani sulking.
Insiders said efforts were under way to convince him to to withdraw his resignation. When contacted,Dharmani confirmed the resignation but refused to comment further.
