Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi will be the star campaigner for the party in Haryana ahead of the Lok Sabha elections,state unit’s campaign committee chairman,Venod Sharma said on Monday.
“Rahul Gandhi will definitely campaign for our candidates. We are still formulating his dates as Haryana will go to the polls in the fourth phase of the elections on May 7,” Sharma,who is also the ruling Congress MLA from Ambala (city) said on Monday.
He said besides Rahul,Congress president Sonia Gandhi and even Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh will visit the state for campaigning.
Sharma said that besides Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda,who is already actively campaigning for the Congress,other senior leaders of the party will also hit the campaign trail at a later stage.
Congress had won 9 seats in the 2004 Parliamentary elections and has an overwhelming majority in the 90 member State Assembly.
“After successfully covering 12 districts comprising about 50 assembly segments during the first phase of campaigning,now we are going to start the second round,” he informed.
Sharma said that they will hold public meetings at the district headquarters and rallies will also be held at the divisional headquarters.
