Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, who has been on a “leave of absence”, is expected to attend his party’s farmer rally on April 19 to protest against the NDA government’s move to amend the land acquisition Act. The party indicated that Rahul will be present at the rally following an internal party meeting on Monday evening.
The rally, on the eve of the second phase of the Budget Session, is among the several steps the Congress along with other opposition parties is taking to lodge its protest against the government’s move, both inside and outside Parliament. Rahul has been absent through the first part of the Session.
After a meeting of AICC general secretaries, PCC chiefs and CLP leaders presided by senior party leader A K Antony, general secretary Digvijaya Singh said lakhs of farmers are expected to participate in the protest. He said Congress president Sonia Gandhi will address the rally.
Asked whether Rahul will attend it too, Singh said, “All senior leaders will participate in it. Is he not among senior leaders? Rahul is also among the senior leaders.”
