A man and a woman from Punjab were arrested here on Monday for allegedly possessing 23 kgs of narcotic substance,a police spokesman said.
Jasminder Kaur and Harbinder Singh,both residents of Hoshiarpur in Punjab,were arrested from city gate Pantha chowk on Srinagar-Jammu National highway.
The duo was smuggling the contraband,a type of cannabis known as ‘Fuki’ in local parlance,from Kashmir to Punjab,the spokesman said,adding a case under NDPS was registered against them.
With their arrest,a total of five Punjab residents have been arrested for carrying the contraband in past 20 days. On November 25,Gurnam Singh Balkhar and his sister Manjir Kaur were held from Pantha chowk and 30 kgs of Fuki was recovered from them.
On December 8,police arrested Gurpreet Singh of Punjab with 18 kgs of poppy at Jajjar Kotli in Jammu.
