Punjab Assembly pays tribute to Delhi gangrape victim

Later the House observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect for the departed souls.

The Punjab Vidhan Sabha Tuesday paid tributes to the Delhi gangrape victim and 17 school children,who died recently in a road mishap in Jaladhar during the obituary references.

On the second day of the budget session,Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal led the members of the House in paying tributes to the gangrape victim saying she fought her attackers bravely. The House also remembered Hira Lal Sibal,father of Union Minister Kapil Sibal,who had died recently due to old age.

The House also paid tributes to former Minister Satyapal Saini and at least eight freedom fighters who died in the interim period between the last meeting of the Assembly and the present session. Later the House observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect for the departed souls.

Mohali MLA Balbir Singh Sidhu reminded the House of the murder of a lawyer Amarpreet Singh in Mohali adding that his name too be included in the list of obituary references. The Speaker allowed the move.

Prominent among those present in the House included Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal,Leader of Opposition Sunil Kumar Jakhar and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Madan Mohan Mittal of BJP.

After the obituary references,the House was adjourned for the day by the Speaker.
