Publisher attacked over Amma book

According to police sources, three youths ransacked the DC Books’ outlet in Kottayam and left a threatening note saying the publishing house should desist from its malicious campaign against Amritanandamayi.

The office of publishing house DC Books and its CEO’s house in Kottayam were attacked by unidentified persons, allegedly to protest against publication of a Malayalam version based on Gail Tredwell’s controversial book on spiritual leader Mata Amritanadamayi and her ashram.

According to police sources, three youths ransacked the DC Books’ outlet in Kottayam and left a threatening note saying the publishing house should desist from its malicious campaign against Amritanandamayi. Later in the night on Monday, miscreants pelted stones at the house of DC Books’ CEO Ravi.

DC Books had recently brought out a Malayalam version based on Tredwell’s Holy Hell; A Memoir of Faith, Devotion and Pure Madness. The Malayalam version, Amritanandamayi Matt: a Sanyasiniyude Velippeduthalukal, was based on Kairali TV managing editor John Brittas’s conversion with Tredwell.

Reacting to the attack, DC Books said it has always taken a strong stand and has never adopted religious or political sides on issues.
