The police on Tuesday imposed Section 144 in part of Kishanganj town after a communal tension triggered by unconfirmed reports of chopped head of cow found near a temple. People staged protests, blocked traffic and torched two motor cycles. As the area has mixed population of Hindus and Muslims, the police have prohibited gathering at public places.
Kishanganj SP Dipak Barnwal said the situation is under control and the police have taken preventive measures. Additional Director General of Police (headquarters) Gupteshwar Pandey said: “Th-ere is no report of any untoward incident. Adequate police deployment has been provided to the district town.”
