Against the backdrop of tension between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana over different issues, President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday appealed to the people of both the states to work in close harmony to ensure sustainable development and betterment of the people of the country.
“We can choose our friends but cannot choose our neighbours,” he said, stressing that it is us for decide whether we should live in harmony and peace with our neighbours. Mukherjee was speaking at a function where he was presented the first copy of the book ‘Uniki’ written by C Vidyasagar Rao, Governor of Maharashtra. Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao handed over the book to the President who formally released the book.
The President said that he was happy to receive the first copy of the book and congratulated Vidyasagar Rao. He said that the title, ‘Uniki’, which means Existence, evokes a philosophical view of the issues and events that have been written about in the book.
He also quoted one of the Ten Commandments of the Bible ‘love your neighbour’ to underscore his message, adding “Work in close harmony because, we belong to India.”
