High drama was witnessed Saturday inside the Bathinda court complex after Lakhvir Singh Lakha constituency in charge of PPP from Rampura Phul raised slogans against Education Minister Sikander Singh Maluka after he was sent to 14 days judicial remand.
Lakha was arrested Friday from Hamirgarh village under arms act as he was found with 315 bore rifle,which had license in name of his mother. After the arrest,he and PPP President Manpreet Badal had indicated that Education Minister had masterminded the entire episode to intimidate candidates who were to contest block samiti elections in Rampura phul area.
Earlier,Lakha was to be produced in Rampura Phul court where the PPP leaders had gathered in large numbers to stage a dharna,but the police changed the plan at the last minute and took him in Bathinda court from where he was sent to Bathinda central jail.
However,the sources revealed that Bathinda jail authorities refused to accept him as an undertrial who had previously attacked Lakha was inside the jail and hence to avoid any altercation,he was sent to Faridkot Modern jail.
Meanwhile,the PPP leaders staged a dharna outside Rampura Phul court complex and stated that the ruling alliance had planned this case just to keep Lakha away from Zila Parishad and block samiti elections which are scheduled for May 19.
Manpreet Badal categorically stated that it was the SADs style to intimidate the candidates of other parties and police was becoming a tool in the hands of the ruling alliance. He stated that his partys candidates will not back out from the contest.
About 15 candidates are being fielded from this area for block samiti elections in co-ordination with Congress.
