Chandra Krishnamurthy, the vice-chancellor of Pondicherry Central University who was asked to go on leave last week, was placed on ‘compulsory wait’ by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Friday evening, after she insisted on resuming charge against the advise of the ministry and the Puducherry government.

The Puducherry government also sent a show cause notice to Krishnamurthy’s residence, Friday, after it was approved by the President’s office.

Puducherry Chief Secretary Manoj Parida confirmed that Krishnamurthy could not join the university until further orders from MHRD.

“We have asked her to step down but she refused. Although there was a communication to appear before HRD ministry, she was not available. Since she was not available to receive the order and circular in person, the notice was served at her bungalow,” said a senior HRD ministry official, adding that the ministry is planning to handover all evidence against her to the CBI.
