Sharad Pawar targeted Narendra Modi in rallies at Sion-Koliwada and Sewri on Sunday. He spoke of the recent ceasefire violations in Kashmir and stressed that Modi is ignoring his responsibilities as Prime Minister. “As a party person, you can address as many campaigns as you want, we do not have a problem with that. But as the PM of a nation, your first responsibility is to protect the people of this country and you have failed in doing so. We have a big problem with that,” Pawar said.
Referring to the PM’s earlier speeches of Gujarat being ahead of Maharashtra in terms of growth, Pawar said Modi should compare the data for various sectors. “Be it education, health, job creation or agriculture, Maharashtra has always been an example for other states. If we want the country to develop, it can start only from Maharashtra and under the guidance of able leaders and an experienced party like the NCP,” Pawar said.
Senior NCP leaders targeted the BJP advertisement, “Kuthe neun thevla Maharashtra mazha? (What have you done to the state of Maharashtra?)” It shows an auto driver complaining about unemployment. Mumbai Mahila NCP President Chitra Wagh said, “Driving a rickshaw is not a sin. What are the BJP leaders trying to prove? Everybody knows it is only the NCP that has worked for growth in the state and for development of women.”
Pawar began the day with an interaction with the media, followed by party meetings in Bhiwandi and Sion, and then a meeting at Mankhurd apart from the rallies at Sewri and Sion-Koliwada.
