In an attempt to speed up the process of identifying an alternate site for the new capital after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, the expert committee constituted by the government will be visiting the state in the first week of May to look into the technicalities involved in the process.
The five-member committee headed by former Urban Development secretary KC Ramakrishnan will meet Thursday to discuss various technicalities in assessing the subject. The committee that was constituted last month is to submit its report within six months to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
“We have to make a fairly technical assessment regarding the relocation of the capital from Hyderabad about the successor state of Andhra Pradesh. The committee will be meeting various ministry officials to assess the situation on the ground during our visit to the state next month. It will be devoid of any political considerations,” said a senior official.
The terms of reference says the committee will also have to consider “the least possible dislocation to existing agriculture systems as well as ensure minimum resettlement of people and their habitations”. The ministry has also asked for feedback from people on its e-mail feedback.expcomt@mha.gov.in but so far has not got any response although the last date for sending suggestions is April 30.
According to the present arrangement Hyderabad will be the common capital for Andhra Pradesh as well as its successor state for the next 10 years.
