Palitana man held for hoisting Pak flag

Police said Tank will be produced in a court on Saturday with an application to seek his police custody.

A daily-wager of Palitana town in Bhavnagar district was arrested by police after a Pakistani flag was found swaying on terrace of his home on Friday.

After receiving a tip off, a team of Palitana police reached residence of Akbar Mohhamed Tank (42) in Talav area of the town and found the Pakistani flag hoisted on terrace. Tank, a daily-wager, was arrested by police and the flag was seized.

“The accused is telling that his brother buys scrap from ship recycling yard of Alang on Bhavnagar coast. He had brought the flag along with a consignment of scrap but the accused did not know that it was National Flag of Pakistan. Son of the accused hoisted the flag on the terrace believing it was decorative flag for Eid,” Palitana police inspector Manjibhai Chauhan told The Indian Express.

On the basis of a complaint filed by Chauhan, Palitana police have booked Tank under IPS Section 153 (C) for his act of attempting to disturb harmony between religious groups.

Police said Tank will be produced in a court on Saturday with an application to seek his police custody.

Incidentally, a resident of Bhavnagar city was arrested by police for insulting the National Flag of India by using it as a piece of cloth to cover vehicles.
