The arrest has been confirmed by Pakistani security agency on ‘hotline’ to the Indian Customs officials in Amritsar. Sources in the Customs department said Mithu was involved in Friday’s smuggling and he had managed to erect a cavity by using a heat resistance cloth inside the bonnet of the truck. Mithu had been involved in such incidents earlier also, said sources. Assistant Commissioner,Customes,ICP Amanjeet Singh also confirmed the arrest.

Sources at ICP said that many times 200 to 300 trucks crossed both sides and it is difficult to rummage each and every vehicle thoroughly.

“We have demanded a truck scanner and even the Union government had promised the same, but still we are not able to get one. Pakistan has a truck scanner on their side,” said a senior official in the Customs department.
