Realising the potential of fashion industry and the requirement of more trained human resource in the field,the University of Pune has decided to start a four-year degree course in fashion designing from the 2013-14 academic session.
Categorised as a professional course,Bachelor of Fashion Design will prepare students as fashion designers,stylists,costume designers,illustrators,fashion entrepreneurs,retail merchandisers and visual merchandisers among other occupations.
Today,a small number of institutes in India provide quality education in fashion and rather very few universities offer degree and post-degree curriculum in it. As an pioneering effort,we decided to start a formal degree course in fashion design to create a pool of human resource needed for this emerging industry, Ashok Chaskar,Dean of Arts,Fine Arts and Reforming Arts,said.
The proposed course will have an annual pattern and candidates having minimum 50 per cent aggregate (45 per cent for reserved category) in Class XII would be eligible to apply.
As per the syllabus designed by the university,there will be due weightage on practicals with candidates requiring a minimum of 40 per cent score in each theory and practical to pass.
