It has been six months since teachers at three Adarsh schools in Faridkot district have received salaries. Further,no classes have been held in the schools located in Midhuman and Pacca villages. The third school in Malha village has been handed over to the Faridkot SDM.
The reason: While the old management running these schools had quit, the new management is yet to take over formal charge.
These three schools were being run by GGS Educational Society running educational institutes in the Talwandi Sabo area. According to sources, while Delhi-based Averon has taken over these three schools, some formalities are pending before it can start operations.
In Midhuman and Pacca, the panchayats had given 11 acres and 15 acres of land respectively for constructing the school buildings. However, the construction of the school buildings is yet to start. While classes in the Midhuman school was being held in an incomplete building,in Pacca, the school was operating from a rented accommodation.
According to the governments policy, panchayat was to provide land for Adarsh schools and the buildings was to be raised by the private companies. While 70 per cent of teachers salaries was also to be paid by the state, the rest was to be paid by the private company.
A teacher said: In the absence of funds, the schools are lying closed. Not only salaries, there are other expenditures like power bill and transport expenses to run a school.
When contacted, outgoing Deputy Commissioner Ravi Bhagat, who was transferred as DC Amritsar recently, said: While the SDM is taking care of the Malha school, teachers from Midhuman school have sent their salary bills only 15 days ago. We are hopeful that the governments share will be cleared by next week.
Teachers in the school at Pacca village have got the governments share of the salary. Once the formalities of the new company is completed, things will be streamlined, he added.
