Nine years after they allegedly killed two brothers over a family rivalry and went absconding, two most wanted criminals were arrested by the Haryana Police Tuesday.
Magharam and his brother Jaiprakash, both residents of Mahra village in Sonepat were arrested on charges of twin murders committed in their native village in July,2004. The are named accused in the murder of brothers Krishan and Vinod, Sonepats Deputy Superintendent of Police (City),Balbir Singh, said.
Giving the case details, the DSP said the murder was the fallout of family rivalry between two clans - one headed by Ramphal and the other by Mahabir.
Ramphal had five sons, including Magharam,Jaiprakash,Anand,Jagdish and Dilbagh, while Mahabir had three sons Vinod,Sonu and Krishan. Both the families had a dispute over sharing of water in their fields and both had been accusing each other of stealing their tubewell pipelines. In the year 2000,Krishan,Vinod,their uncle Ram Niwas and another relative Ganga had murdered Dilbagh. All of them were arrested and sentenced for life. In 2004,Vinod and Krishan came out of jail on parole. When Ramphals sons got to know of this, they went to Vinods tubewell and slaughtered the duo to death. While the others were arrested,Magharam and Jaiprakash were absconding for the last nine years. They were also arrested today, the DSP added.
They will be produced in the court Wednesday. The Special Investigation Team, which has finally succeeded in arresting these two most wanted criminals shall also be suitably rewarded, the DSP added.
There had been three murders in the last 13 years in both the families, members of which continue to stay in the same village.
