A Nigerian national has complained to the Jalandhar Police that a man he met through Facebook has allegedly duped him of over Rs 1 lakh. The Jalandhar Commisionerate Police has marked the inquiry to its Economic Offences (EO) wing.

Wizy Manuels, who lives in Delhi but had studied at an institute in Jalandhar, told police that he is a professional singer and had wanted to record a song that he had titled ‘China Baby’. In his complaint,Manuels states that he was approached on his Facebook account by a Jalandhar-based video director who appreciated his songs and promised to get his song recorded.

The Nigerian national adds that the video director then introduced him to the owner of a Jalandhar-based music company. According to Manuels, the owner originally hails from Ratto-Ke village in Tarn-Taran district.

“They promised to record my song and we signed an agreement on May 7,2013. We even settled on the dates for recording, promos etc. I had to pay over Rs 1 lakh for models and the costumes. But when the date for recording came close, both of them started avoiding me and blocked my ID on their Facebook accounts and my phone number on their mobile list,” Manuels’ complaint reads.
