Udhampur attack: NIA gets custody of Pak terrorist Mohammad Naved

Sources said that the NIA produced Naved before the court in the morning and requested for his remand to enable his custodial interrogation to find out his other links.

Lashar-e-Toiba terrorist Mohammad Naved was today remanded in NIA custody for 14 days for his custodial investigation.

Naved, who had been one of the two terrorists involved in attack on a BSF convoy on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Udhampur district earlier this month, was apprehended by two villagers whom he had made hostage on gunpoint. His other accomplice Mohammad Nomen, also from Pakistan, was killed in retaliatory fire by BSF and CRPF patrol.

Sources said that the NIA produced Naved before the court in the morning and requested for his remand to enable his custodial interrogation to find out his other links and also the people associated with terror network in the state.

Granting Naved’s 14 days remand to the NIA, judge Y P Kotwal directed the investigating agency to get him medically examined at government hospital after every 48 hours. He fixed the next date in the case as August 24. Though state police had already handed over custody of the arrested terrorist to NIA, seeking his remand from special court was a pre-requisite for it to begin custodial interrogation.

Earlier, the state police had obtained remand of Naved from a local court in Chenani and he was kept at joint interrogation centre for his custodial interrogation by different agencies. During his custody with the police, the NIA had taken him to Valley and also the place of terror attack in Udhampur district to check veracity of his disclosures.

Sources said that during questioning by multi agencies, he has made many disclosures regarding his training at camps across the border, his infiltration route from the LoC, as also the places where he visited and stayed in the state, apart from his local handlers.
