Deputy CM Ajit Pawar embarked on a scheduled tour of drought-affected areas Thursday even as Opposition threatened to intensify stir for his removal over uncharitable remarks on drought and load shedding in the state.
Ajit had said at a public meeting in Indapur last Saturday: If there is no water in the (Ujani) dam, should I urinate? It appears people are busy making babies during load shedding.
Sena,BJP and MNS are demanding his resignation for ridiculing farmers.
But a defiant Ajit said: I have been appointed deputy CM by my MLAs and workers. If a decision has to be taken,I will have to consult them.
Senior NCP leaders said,There is no question of his resignation at the moment. While we all regret the remarks he made at Indapur, the chapter is closed now and everybody should move ahead.
Ajit said,I am being haunted for remarks I have repeatedly said were the biggest mistake of my political career. I have apologised in the state legislature. I have apologised to the people of Maharashtra. Yet,the issue is being raked wherever I am going.
Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray said,Ideally,NCP should have asked him to resign without waiting for the Opposition demand.
I wonder what NCP president Sharad Pawar has to say in the matter. Why is he silent?
Referring to an earlier instance when Pawar had slammed party cabinet minister Bhaskar Jadhav for vulgar display of wealth at the weddings of his children in Konkan,he said: Sharad Pawar said at the time ‘I was restless when I saw the images of the weddings. I could not sleep’.
How is Pawar sleeping after such uncharitable remarks by his nephew?
State NCP chief Madhukar Pichad said,As far as NCP is concerned, the issue of resignation of Ajit Pawar does not arise. Nobody is even discussing it after he tendered an apology.
Other party leaders said,The Opposition is bound to exploit the controversial statements.
