Suspected Naxals shot at and slit the throat of an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) at Asarali,a remote village in Sironcha tehsil of Gadchiroli,Thursday as he was returning home from hospital after treatment.
Rajreddy Pocham Gaddewar of Sironcha was with wife when 2-3 Naxals filed at him from close range and slit his throat, superintendent of police Suvez Haq said.
With this, the number of civilians killed allegedly by Naxals in Gadchiroli this month has gone up to four. Another civilian was killed in Gondia.
Meanwhile, the large quantity of arms and ammunition seized from a well behind Gadchiroli police headquarters may be for the benefit of policemen who fail to maintain their quota.
ASI Omprakash Thakur,in charge of the armoury at a police training facility in Gadchiroli, was arrested on June 23 in connection with the haul.
Sources said,More than Naxals, policemen unable to maintain their quota of arms and ammunition would benefitted from the pilferage by Thakur.
Asked why the pilferage could not be noticed earlier,Haq said,Because he (Thakur) was in charge of the store.
