Initial investigations in the Nari Niketan suicide case indicated that the girls took the decision to commit suicide in a spur of the moment. Both girls had lunch and then evening tea at 4 pm on Tuesday, but as the authorities took the evening roll call they were found missing. A search followed and the girls were found in the bathroom. Inmates told the visiting authorities that the girls looked calm and never gave any signs of a disturbed mental state.
Meanwhile, for the second consecutive day, relatives of one of the girls refused to take her body even as the body of the second girl was handed over to her relatives and cremated. The District administration has tried to persuade the parents of the girl to take her body. Sources said the family members wanted action against those allegedly responsible for their initial escape from Nari Niketan.
Both the girls had escaped after scaling the wall of the Nari Niketan and were brought back by the police from Kaithal.
Sources said that during their brief stay at the shelter home they developed a strong bond with each other.
Investigations also indicated that both girls were not ready to go back home as they feared a backlash. They had allegedly eloped from their homes, later found by the police and sent to Nari Niketan.
