A major reshuffle of senior police officials in Karnataka, including the Bengaluru police commissioner, has been carried out by the Congress government following the retirement from service of senior IPS officer and director general of police Bipin Gopal Krishna.
The government has appointed 1987 batch IPS officer Megharikh NS as the new police commissioner following the promotion of the present commissioner MN Reddi to the position of Director General of Police. Reddi has been posted as DGP and Commandant General for Home Guards and Fire Services.
The new Bengaluru commissioner is considered an upright officer who believes in going by the book. Reddi as commissioner had brought the Bengaluru police recognition on social media through his foray into Twitter, Facebook and other online resources for community policing.
In other transfers senior IPS officer HC Kishore Chandra was posted as DGP of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to replace the retiring DGP Bipin Gopal Krishna. The Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Praveen Sood has been transferred to the position of ADGP (Administration); Alok Mohan to ADGP (Law and order); Dr Rajvir Pratap Sharma to ADGP (communication, logistics and modernisation); Dr P Ravindranath to ADGP (Police computer wing); T Suneel Kumar to ADGP (Internal Security Division), Amar Kumar Pandey to ADGP (Railway); Bhaskar Rao to ADGP (Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement) and Dr S Parashiva Murthy to ADGP (Karnataka State Reserve Police).
