Najma Shaikh was on her way to Allahabad with her husband, Aziz, a signalman in the army. They were accompanied by their two sons, Najma’s mother and brother.
After the derailment, Najma could not find her husband and four-year-old son Musa. A few hours later, someone told her that Aziz had died in the incident, and his body had been shifted to the government hospital in Harda.
“When I was taken to Harda, I frantically searched for his body,” she said.
After a few hours, someone told her that a child and a man, whose clothes matched the description she gave, were seen at a nearby village.
Najma was reunited with her husband and son. Aziz later told her that the villagers who arrived at the site took him and Musa with them.
The family also managed to retrieve most of their belongings and were ready to leave for their onward journey to Allahabad, where Aziz is posted.
