Only a few candidates from the Other Backward Class have secured a seat in an institute of their choice in the open category this year in IITs. Most of them used their quota or relaxed score for admission.

The exact figure would be compiled only after the round three of admission gets over. However,Dr H C Gupta, organising chairman of JEE (advanced) 2013,said only 100-140 OBC candidates would have taken the open category route. In all,7,436 students made it the common merit list (CML),of which 1,145 were from OBC category.
