Delhi Police on Monday identified five more corridors where it will ensure “zero tolerance” for traffic offences by enforcing lane discipline,taking the total number of such stretches to 15.
Announcing this initiative,City Police Commissioner B K Gupta said the decision to add five more corridors was part of the force’s continuing efforts to improve traffic situation in the capital.
“We have identified five more corridors for traffic improvement. I am confident we will succeed in our efforts to improve traffic situation in Delhi,” Gupta said.
The five new corridors are Outer Ring Road from Modi Mill flyover to Rao Tula Ram Marg,Africa Avenue-Vinay Marg,Vikas Marg from IP flyover to Karkari,NH24 from Nizamuddin to Ghazipur and Teen Murti round about to C Hexagon through Akbar Road,he said.
Commenting on the success of the initiative,Gupta said,”Our earlier scheme of 10 corridors of zero tolerance for traffic offences has succeeded to a large extent. Major corridors like ring road from Naraina to Ashram have become jam-free even in peak hours except when there is a breakdown.”
The ten corridors which were earlier announced for special drive included Outer Circle in Connought Place,Ring road from Ashram to Naraina,Tilak Marg,Lodhi Road and Nelson Mandela Marg.
After taking over as the Commissioner on November 10,he said,police have initiated certain measures to improve
traffic scenario in the city.
“We will ensure substantial improvement on these stretches. With cooperation from citizens of Delhi,we would ensure best possible traffic scene in the city,” he said.
According to the plan,buses and trucks will ply in the extreme left lane,autorickshaws and other utility vehicles in middle lane and cars in the right lane.
He said he has received several “valuable suggestions” and traffic police will implement many of these based on availability of resources and constraints.
