The 18-year-old, who allegedly murdered and possibly raped two sisters – aged three and six – was arrested and brought to Mizoram’s capital Aizawl to be produced before a magistrate.
The bodies of the two girls were found around 8 pm on Friday near their tin-roofed home in the Chhingchhip village, about 80 km from state capital Aizawl.
Lalchhuantluanga — who hails from the same village where the murders took place — was charged with murder and “aggravated penetrative sexual assault” of a minor, a senior police officer said. He added that the accused might be charged for trespassing and burglary as well.
Lalchhuantluanga, whom the locals called a thief and a known drug addict, was accused of murdering two sisters near their home while their parents were away at their farm. According to those who first spotted the bodies, the sisters were dumped in the foliage near their house.
Lalchhuantluanga was arrested after a daylong search. He was found hiding inside a house occupied by some outsiders in the village on Saturday night.
